A testimonial from a freelancer : ideas to save you time
I don’t know about you, but I often feel that I’m chasing my tail. Well, maybe I exaggerate: I manage to sort myself out, as well as my family and friends, but I’m aware that I still lose too much time spreading myself too thinly.
So, since coming across this article I’ve told myself that I should pass on this advice to you. It’s nothing revolutionary, simply some ideas that are full of common sense, but they could at least be a reminder for some of us :)
Here’s a little informal translation of 10 ideas that are supposed to save us time…or at the least, waste less time.
- Make fewer phone calls but target them more.
- Don’t get hooked by the internet (doesn’t apply for me, I spend hours netsurfing…)
- Be strict about separating your work time from your time off.
- If inspiration doesn’t knock at your door, do something different instead of wasting time.
- Only go to meetings that are really going to be of benefit to you. Opt for a video chat or a conference call to save on travelling time.
- Block out time in your diary for advancing a project. Do the same thing for spending time with your family.
- Sub-contract some of your work. It’s better sometimes to pay someone else a little and save loads of time for yourself…or win other projects :)
- Cut back on activities that take up lots of time. Go twice a week instead of three times a week to your yoga classes for example…
- Keep away from television. You can spend hours in front of it without even realising...
- Always have a book with you. A good way to exercise your concentration skills.
